LIFE SKILLS

UBUMAMA Outdoor classroom provides the space where essential life skills can be imparted to children.

These life skills are so beautifully shown in nature and are readily absorbed in a natural environment.

Skills that are critical to safety and survival such as ‘Listening, teamwork and following the rules provided by the guides to prevent getting lost in the wild or endangering lives. Observing and becoming aware of nature increases children’s overall sense of optimism and wellbeing. Opening all the senses, eyes, ears, nose, skin, gives rise to a natural sense of wonder, a sense of belonging and self empowerment.

The natural sense of awareness which arises in the wild, is a life skill critical for learning and successful living. The Outdoor Classroom activities teach courage and the ability to push past pre conditioned limitations, showing children possibilities to fulfill their own potential.

The program is intended for school students, particularly those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Building a healthy appreciation for nature and our heritage is the strongest foundation upon which a sense of belonging, pride in one’s culture, community, country of origin, the environment, for oneself and for all life on earth, begins.
